Note takers for injured students.
Hey guys.

I got into a motorcycle accident four weeks ago, breaking my left wrist and completely tearing my UCL (Ligament in my right thumb). Also broke my jaw if that all wasn't enough.

Anyways, I'm in casts for both arms right now, and I am going to have at least a cast on my right hand for the first few weeks of class.
My major concern is taking notes in Engineering I.

I've been in contact with the Center for student development, who've basically given me the runaround. It seems that they have nothing in place for temporary disabilities. Recording the lectures is fine for english, but you can't tape record a diagram or formula.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any resources that I could use to help me stay afloat for the first few weeks of class.

Thanks!
-Kelvyn

Contact your professors and ask for their help. Tell them exactly what happened and why you're having problems writing, and tell them you'd like to talk to them in person once the school year starts. (So they can put a name to a face and so that they know you're telling the truth).

Maybe they can give you copies or notes, or get notes from other students in the class for you.

I'd also suggest contacting the Department of Eng, and ask what they suggest for you.

Good luck, and heal quickly!

I would continue to try and get information from the CSD and check their website and see if you can find the info you're looking for.

They definitely have a service for students who are unable to take notes for whatever reason. I'm pretty sure you have to sign up with them for whichever courses you need notes for. Then Professors are usually notified and within the first week and second week of classes they usually advertise that note takers are needed for this class and put up the contact info for the CSD. With your situation you should be able to take advantage of this service for the time period you are injured.

In any case when you start making friends and meeting people in your classes and programs you should be able to get notes from them and anything you need. They will be able to see that you are injured and I'm sure they'll be willing to assist a fellow classmate.

good job not reading his post.

OP, the first few weeks aren't that important. Mostly review (but depends on the course)
-a lot of courses have lecture notes online.
-talk to the profs
-ask friends/people sitting next to you in class
-you could try to learn how to write with your not broken hand in the next few weeks ("try" is the key word since it is likely difficult)

Why are you such a jerk all the time? It's like you post here specifically to give people a hard time.

I did read the post and I saw that he said the CSD is giving him the runaround, I was simply telling the OP to be persistent. That is where they offer help to students who are unable to take notes, they have note takers and everything. Perhaps its just too early for them to be able to assist him, maybe if he checks back when classes are starting they will be able to be more helpful. They don't have note takers lined up yet b/c as I mentioned they advertise for the note takers they need once classes are starting.

I also offered an alternative suggestion. Next time I suggest you shut your trap if you don't like someone else's advice and just offer your own. Leave it to the OP to decide which advice is good for them,
