Online Connection
I'm a first year student and I was wondering if there is even a point of bringing my playstation 3. I heard that online connection is bad at mcmaster for video games because of the firewall they have there. Anyone have any experience with this at all?

I have a friend that logged 1000 hours in residence last year on xbox live during first semester (I'm dead serious).

He said it's fine during the night and day (when most people are asleep or in class).

I found the connection there to be really good at McMaster - I was living in Hedden if this helps you. I rarely experienced any lag, and I found it to be very good. It was like playing in my home. I thought the connection was great, and I was expecting it to be very bad.
Though, to be fair I pretty much played at night and during mornings, when most people weren't using the Internet.
So, yes definitely bring your console of choice. I did and I did not regret it.
In order to actually connect your console and get past McMaster's firewall you will need to use this site to get everything working.

When you move into residence follow the steps and you should be ready to play online!

I'm not sure about console gaming, but the lag made PC gaming damn near unbearable when I tried it in first year unless I played in the middle of the night

lol, he's very dedicated. He says he has a spare Xbox in his room just incase the one he plays on happens to burn out, which he can use while the other is in for repair.

I have no idea how the hell he still manages to maintain a 10+ average...
