Optional?
On Titles the lab coat and the goggles are listed as optional. What would happen if I don't get them?

If you are taking Bio 1A03, Chem1A03/1AA3, then they are required for the labs!

in Bio 1A03 the labcoat is mandatory but the goggles are optional (no one really used them)
whereas in Chem 1A03/Chem 1AA3 the goggles are mandatory but the lab coat is optional.

It varies from course to course, but it's best to get both just in case.

Lab coats are optional for chem?
Weird cause my T.A.s said they were required and everyone in my lab had them on all the time.

They're mandatory for a lot of classes. You'll find out what's mandatory and whats optional during the 1st class.

In my lab I saw a few people who didn't have lab coats on and the TA didn't say anything to them.

personally I would never take the risk, especially in chem.

You should get them both... you'll definitely be needing them, and they're a good investment for us Sci-Cos!

Nope--I was a TA last year for chem 1A03 and will be again this year. Not sure yet if they'll be changing the rules for this year, but last year the lab coat was only "strongly recommended". Goggles are definitely required, though. Personally, I'd wear one, and if you saw my lab coat you'd know why It looks like a million things exploded and I was in a murder scene; I definitely don't want my clothes to look like that.

Yep, optional. I didn't wear one sometimes, and my TA (well, TAs, both terms) just stressed on the goggles. If you forget 'em, you have to rent 'em for two dollars.

For Bio, yep, vice versa.

Luckily for me, I got to share my goggles with my brother, since we had labs on different days. Cost, halved.

Just get both the goggles and labcoat. There are normally required for Bio and chem in first year and many other classes in upper years.

Also, you don't want to risk and not be allowed into the lab if your TA is strict about the labcoat/goggles. (some really are, trust me). It'll save you the embarrassment and trouble lol.
