Kindles have gotten pretty cheap, and they do support pdf. You'd have to have a US address to order the newer ones, though.

I recommend a tablet, I have a Toshiba Thrive (android). It's got a good size screen, and works great. you can plug in usb, hdmi, mini usb and insert SD card for extra storage. and I think its relatively cheaper than other tablets.

Get a nice solid tablet.. Kindle Fire is your best bet.
