Pets ?
Hey Guys!
I am looking for any building/houses to rent for next year that allows pets. Specifically a 10 pound dog.
If any of you have heard of place or previously rented one that allows PLEASE PLEASE let me know as I am getting slightly panicked. Only places I can find at the moment are half an hour bus ride.
I am looking for a one bedroom apt to rent with my Bf, preferably walking distance to Mac or a short bus ride
Thanks everyone !!!

You could try asking McMaster Housing to see if they know of any tenants who allow pets to live in their buildings. That or if you're really gung ho about a certain place you could try and convince the land lord that you would take care of your pet, keep the noise down, etc.

I guess I'll play devil's advocate here, but (I'm pretty sure) that according to the Ontario Tenant Landlord Act, no landlord can ban you from having pets. This means if you rent a place, then your landlord finds out you have pets and wants to evict you because of it - they can't.
They can evict you if the house is damaged by the pet, if roommates are being bothered, etc. But they can't evict you solely because you have the pet.
Having said that, it's always better to be honest, especially with a pet like a dog. You can ask McMaster Housing Services, check Kijiji and check Facebook Marketplace (that's how I found my apartment in the summer). If nothing else works, a 30 minute bus ride isn't that bad.

main and whitney have a bunch of building that allow pets the bus rid is about 10 min, 25-30 min to walk, 12 min bike ride. They are better prices too compared to renting a room closer to campus.

If you go to the McMaster Off Campus Housing website you should be able to find a lot of those apartments there. I lived in one of those buildings a couple years ago and that was where I had found the ad for it.

A landlord isn't allowed to put a no pet clause in the lease. Hamilton by laws.
Just like he can't say that you're not allowed to smoke in the house.

It's not a Hamilton by-law. it's Ontario law:
""No pet" provisions void
14. A provision in a tenancy agreement prohibiting the presence of animals in or about the residential complex is void. 2006, c. 17, s. 14."
http://www.ontariotenants.ca /law/law.phtml#Q6 clarifies it a bit as well.

WOW. I did not know about that - essentially the first thing our lease contract says is that no pets are allowed in the house at all.
Sweet!

Yup. You jsut need to be careful. If the dog barks a lot, the landlord can say it's annoying the neighbours. Or if he pees in the apartment, they can say it's damaging the property.

As opposed to what, babies pissing everywhere?
Oh right, people probably think the latter is "cute."
