Philosophy 1B03

This class was a disaster for me. The professor said things that were blatantly wrong and imposed her views upon the class. By blatantly wrong I don't mean that she was rude, I mean that she made incorrect assumptions and based her arguments upon them and was proven wrong by one of her students in the middle of lecture.
The course material itself is fairly interesting. It will ask you to put our society under a theoretical microscope. Native culture issues, abortion, homosexuality, politics, religion, morals/ethics all come into play in this class. Your text consists of articles written by influential members of our society like Judith Butler and Pierre Trudeau to name a few.

This course had a different prof last year (Mark Walker), so if Proffessor Walker is teaching it again next year I think it's a good course, it seems most of the problems you had were based on a lousy prof.

According to Scott it's gotten better. If you have Dr. E. Gedge... well I have no faith in her ability to teach lets just put it that way.

Dr. Gedge is the chair of Philosophy. I've heard nothing but incredible things about her. Nevertheless, I have, I assume a PHD student because I've never heard of my prof.

The work load is fair. You'll have articles to read out of the textbook, maybe 2-3 articles of varying length each week but thats about it for the readings. You'll have two essays if my memory serves me right and a final which will include many if not all of the articles discussed.

'bird' courses are very subjective. What was easy for me may not be easy for you.
Some people struggled with the reading and the essays, I did not. If you think you'll have a problem with reading several articles every couple of weeks then this wouldn't be a bird course for you.

AWESOME class! This was my favourite class out of all the classes I took first year. The prof was great (Mark Walker), unfortunately he's moved on to New Mexico and won't be back. He was really funny and taught the material really well.

The class covered some really interesting topics, environmental ethics, pornography, and war & terrorism to name a few. The readings were really easy and included a few from world leaders not just philosophers. The topics are covered well with readings arguing both sides of the issue. This makes tutorials really fun because you can get really get into it.

The essay topics were really easy and the exam was a breeze. This is a great class if you're interested in law, politics, or just want to challenge yourself to reconsider opinions that you've been ingrained with.

Prof was Dr. Stefan Rodde. Nice guy presented clearly and all that.
Course material covered was pretty interesting like pornography, homosexuality, torture, terrorism, and interesting things like this. Not sure if all TA's were like mine but they were a brutal marker. Tough.

Overall, good course. Exam was easy! Two essays were not bad at all. I'd recommend it. Just hope you don't get a tough TA.

So was it difficult to achieve a good mark in this class?
b/c if i end up takign both physics 1LO3 and physics 1BO3, it leaves me with only one space for an elective, which would be this philosophy class
