physics 1l03 vs 1b03
Hi,

I'm taking going to be taking Physics 1L03 next sem, but thinking of switching to Physics 1B03, but am not completely sure. Someone told me that, unlike from other posts i read, this semester the Physics 1L03 was brutal. So i thought if Physics 1L03 is that hard, i might as well as take Physics 1B03. The reason why i deterred me to take Physics 1B03 in the first place was because i switched program and haven't taken physics for like 2 years, so i was afraid i would struggle in 1b03. It seems like other than med school or certain 2nd year life sci courses, there isn't really reason to take 1b03...
And on the sidenote, does 1l03 prepare you well for 1b03?

Thanks in advance

1lo3 does prepare you for 1b03. just make sure you do really well on the quizzes since those can be easy marks, as well as capa. make sure you know the concepts as well, since a lot of questions can be concept based as well. physics 1B03 is way more detailed so 1l03 might get you prepared for that. If nothing else, you'll be more in the physics studying mode as concepts seem to get rusty if there's a break after high school physics. Also, I would suggest taking it with Dr.Nejat. He is awesome!

It's not just certain courses that require 1B03, most programs will require you to take it by the end of second year anyways.

I heard that 1L03 really doesn't prepare you at all for 1B03...everyone I know who took 1L that already had gr12 physics and then had to take 1B03 later really regretted wasting $550 and an elective space on 1L03.

Also, I really didn't like Dr Nejat. Him teaching a course would be enough for me to not take it.

I wanted to take that course but dropped it for a bird course.

I want to learn more physics because I never really pay attention in physics class in High school and now I feel like I am missing out on all the interesting knowledge Uni can offer me :(

Is this the right course for me??
and is it easy, for someone who has minimal physics knowledge and sufficient math skills?

Physics 1L03 is basically a review of high school physics (w/ the exception of torque) and you can easily do well w/ minimal physics knowledge as that's what the course is intended for. Those who take physics 1L03 have not taken high school physics or are looking for a 'bird course.'

Would you consider it a bird course, though? I took physics 1B03 and it was tough (I know I cannot take 1L03). Just curious what you thought about 1B03.

I would consider Physics 1L03 to be a bird course, very easy to get 10+ in the course, as not much effect is needed in preparing for the midterm or weekly quizzes, since most of it is review. The only bad thing that the quizzes are only out of 5. Also, if you took Physics 1B03, you can still take Physics 1L03, there is no anti-requiste for this course.

you can take 1l03 if you want even if youve done 1b03.

hmm ppl are both agreeing and disagreeing that physics 1l03 would prepare you for 1b03, so im not sure who's right... is 1b03 that hard and time consuming?

i wouldnt call it time consuming. prob takes less time than bio 1a03. it comes down to the person i guess.

This.

That's what people don't seem to get. Different people can take the exact same course the same year with the same prof and have completely different opinions on it. Even if the majority of people have a certain opinion, that doesn't mean that when you take the course, you will agree. The course might not even be taught the same way as previous years, though for well-established and large courses this is less of an issue.

So yeah, nobody is "right" and everybody is "right". Sorry that's not the answer you wanted.

I suggest taking l03 over b03 if you haven't touched physics for 2 years. you don't want b03 to kill your grades

I've heard that 1B03 is quite hard. My roommate/best friend who I would call a smart person found the course very difficult. From what I have seen of other people doing 1L03 it seems relatively straightforward in my opinion. Seems like 1L03 would be a good course to boost grades a bit and get at least a decent foundation of physics.
