if we dont have the void cheque, will a copy of the bank statement work?

do they question you at all or is it just straight pickup.

it's a straight pickup. There is usually a line for the first couple of weeks. So expect to wait somewhere between 10 minutes (last year) to 3 hours to get it (my first year).

All you need is your student card, SIN card and gov. ID with photo (passport, driver's license). You sign a few lines, if you have money to pick up you will take your void cheque and write in the banking info (the numbers located on the bottom of cheques).

I'd suggest checking the line up, and if it's really long do it another time.
