Plastic recycling @ McMaster University (survey)
Hello everyone, I am doing my final year inquiry project on the conversion of plastic waste into fuel.
I've discovered that McMaster University generates 813673 pounds of plastic per year, or 2229 pounds of plastic daily.
All this plastic can be converted into oil which can be used to fuel cars, etc.
My question for you guys is: If McMaster was to implement this type of technology. Would it increase, decrease, or have no change on your recycling habits?
Thanks!

My recycling habits would be increased. But unless it's a big enough incentive to get people to actively think about it, the general student body will remain unmoved :(

Why would it change habits? Unless you're getting paid to turn in your plastics or given some incentive, I don't see why there would be a noticeable change.

It wouldn't change mine at all. I will recycle if it is easy to do but I am not going out of my way for it.

I would not recycle, since recycling has a well known liberal bias.

No change, I try to recycle as best as I can as it is. And while it does have a positive contribution, it just is going to be burned as fuel anyways. We need to go to the root of things and stop producing so much plastic and start having renewable energy vehicles instead.

Wouldn't change but a question to keep in mind is, what benefits would the consumer get for recycling. Sure fuel is made but do the consumers get a directly cheaper alternative, a machine to make this fuel for them?

Already recycle as much as possible but I'll support this only if the recycled fuel is cheaper or equal to the alternative and only if it's environment friendly.

Can we take the recycled plastic and create a giant playground with slides, swings, rubber tires, and maybe some hula hoops?
There's plenty of space on the upper floors of MDCL. No one needs all those classrooms.
I know there's a couple of good journal articles about the necessity of play and exercise in stressful times...

Thank you everyone for your valuable input, the non-troll responses will be included in my report!
I was curious to see if people would start using more plastic if the opportunity to convert it into fuel after disposal was possible. If anyone else wants to add, feel free!
