For all those curious. DO NOT sell your ps3(if you have one). The PS4 will not be able to play the physical ps3 blu-ray disc.

I agree, was waiting for the big release... all they did was preview games and reveal a prototype controller (looks terrible)

The 3 major complaints I hear about the ps3:
-Lack of games
-Very hard to develop for (cell processor very different from traditional tech)
-PSN lacking in comparison to xbox Live, especially for social communication and network speed/capabilities
-it came out a year later than the 360

The 3 major points addressed in the unveiling:
-Major focus on games, 1st and 3rd party; new and old franchises
-Extremely powerful and portable from computer games making development quick and easy
-Massive network overhaul in terms of speed and social capabilities.
-it will be release earlier or on par with the 360 this year

Other points of interest:
-They did not announce exact specifications (except 8gb gddr5 Ram) or show pictures of the final device. This gives them room to modify to more advanced GPU cores in half a year if technology upgrades and / or after the xbox unveiling if it is better than the 4
-It leaves them plenty to show at E3 where everything will almost positively be released. Having nothing substantial to show at e3 is a big mistake.
-Sony has changed focus from Casual/Harcdore Gamer (ps2) -> Hardcore Gamer + Living room entertainment (ps3) -> Hardcore and social gamer (ps4)

That controller is a pre-unveiling mock up, not the actual controller. Actual controller ha a share button and the weird light is less visible from the top.

So it's a ps2 controller with the entire middle as a touch screen... let me guess, newest addition in technology in embedded bluetooth too

The switch from the Cell broadband engine to a x86 processor will make porting PC games a breeze. This means that the PS4 cannot play legacy PS1, PS2, or PS3 games, but streaming them from The PlayStation Cloud is at least a solution.

It's best that Sony didn't reveal all of their cards at this presentation. E3 is only four months away, and it would be a bad move to repeat Microsoft's mistake from 2005, when they unveiled the Xbox 360 in advance on MTV and then had nothing to discuss at the show that year. Sony wiped the floor that year in terms of news and announcements for the PS3; Nintendo had nothing to say about the "Revolution" besides the backwards compatibility gimmick and casing.

Also, I don't mind the controller. I grew up with the Dualshock; it's perfection. I was more worried about the rumours that they would scrap it, so it's nice to see that they were unfounded.

I haven't used a dualshock controller that often (xbox user), but ...is that touchpad supposed to be used actively in-game? I might be wrong, but it doesn't look like reaching my thumb over the thumbsticks would be all that comfortable. The guy who's holding it in that picture seems to have huge hands so it doesn't look like it would be a problem for him.
