i finally have internet.

that is secure. with a password.

thanks everyone for help! i'm going to fight with the driver(s?) issue more tomorrow when i'm not tired as hell

If your CD Drive isn't reading CDs or you feel it was a software malfunction and the hardware itself isn't damaged, and this happened randomly (or after a Vista update), just use System Restore to restore back before that date. (You may need to reinstall your Linksys drivers)

the most basic way to test that its a software problem for a CD/DVD drive is to insert a bootable CD and boot with it, if it doesnt read/boot...then its most definitely a hardware prob

If you want your router to be over 9000 times better, flash it with dd-wrt firmware rather than the default linksys crap :p.

I dont think you should give this advise to a noob. They may end up bricking their router.

Heh, true enough. I initially bricked my router when flashing it (computer decided to stop sending the firmware... wtf). Fixing it with tftp is not fun at all :(.
