These are questions you should already know the answers to. Given you know your financial situation and we don't. Like, if you need help thinking stuff through logically, that's another story.

Totally depends on what your spending limit is, what sort of car you are looking for, and a variety of other factors.

Buying used is the best choice. Just having a car 'used' for a year significantly drops it's value and you save thousands of dollars vs. brand new off the lot.

For used cars I'd recommend checking out Haldimand Motors. It's a slight drive from Hamilton but well worth it. Check out their cars at http://www.haldimandmotors.c om/ lots of new ones coming in each day.

For brand, Honda/Acura is very popular with students. Honda Civics are very reliable, last a long time, are great on gas and use standard fuel, and maintenance/repair cost is low compared to other imports. If you're looking for something that isn't an import and is made closer to home, Ford has some really cool tech in their cars. Parking assist, voice activated controls, lots of options for iPods and docks, bluetooth, etc.

The better questionfirst is, what's your insurance rate? If you are male your insurance is prob super high. As popular as civics/acuras are their insurance rating is high too. I'd look around for 3-5 models you are interested in get an insurance quote then decide

My insurance rate is actually quite low. https://www.esurance.com/ is one way to quickly check quotes.

If you're going to get a 2013 Honda Civic two-door coup in bright red, and it's your first car and you just got your license... well then your insurance will probably be high lol.

Insurance also takes into account how you're using the car, whether it's for driving to work, the distance from your house, if you're just using it for school, etc. Also, check with your parent's insurance company as you may be able to group them together or add an additional car to keep costs down.

Insurance also depends on where you live...Hamilton is more expensive than Burlington or Oakville, for example.
