Quarters Update

Quarters Update

A week ago we posted about Quarters, the MSU-run campus restaurant/bar, changing it's name and having a complete renovation with what MSU staff are calling a new 'rustic' look and feel. With a new menu, staff, and look, they are hoping to completely revitalize the establishment into something that will turn around the roughly $425,000 deficit that Quarters ran in the last fiscal year.

In our MacInsiders thread we included a poll to choose between the proposed names for the new restaurant. 236 members voted on our site and the name "1280" (named after the street number) was the winner. Plus we saw many users discussing the name change, with almost 400 posts in the many threads started on the topic.

The MSU has posted their own official poll which includes a new choice, calling the establishment after the old and very successful "The Downstairs John". We've been told that right now it is a very close race between "The Downstairs John" and "1280" as the new name... which follows the results we received on MacInsiders. So be sure to go to the MSU website and vote to make your opinion official!

We've also posted a new macinsiders user poll on our homepage to see which you, the MacInsiders members, prefer... "1280" or "The Downstairs John"? Let us know!

For some reason, Downstairs John reminds me... of a washroom. All joking aside, 1280 is still pretty nice. :]

Agreed. Sounds like a randomly-placed bathroom
1280 FTW.

All responses to the MSU poll should be the following:

"When using the possessive apostrophe you should use Quarters', not Quarter's.

P.S. I want the name to remain Quarters"

who's with me?

lorend says thanks to FireDragoonX for this post.

There are washrooms on the main floor and upstairs in MUSC.

Yeah... so, not really sure why it should correlate with the washrooms downstairs near Quarters.

The downstairs John was around long before MUSC it has nothing to do with that.

1280 is terrible. It's unoriginal, sounds like a lame night club, and comes from Mac's address? Are you kidding me?

The Downstairs John is a huge part of Mac's history. So many profs talk about having amazing times at the John, it was really successful.

We should pay homage to Mac's history with the new name.

1280 FTW! Callender is so right, The Downstairs John was a big part of Macs history, currently in its place is the daycare outside of MDCL. It would be nice to pay it respect but 1280 sounds pretty cool. ^_^

It would NEVER live up to the legend that it is today.

Also, again, all the names suck.

...which is exactly why it needs a new, original name.

If you want to see a different name, PLEASE email any member of the BoD (but Andrew C ([email protected] er.ca) would be your best bet, since this project is his baby)

I'm still a fan of 1280

Not to rain on anyone's parade but everyone in this thread has a familiar username. We need to get people whose input we haven't heard chiming on this so that we are getting the opinion of a lot more of the student body.
