Quebec to raise tuition
O.k so was shocked to discover that they were still protesting (haven't been following this too closely).

But found out today that 10 students were arrested due to an increase in tuition of $70.

Wow, from the time I began Mac to now, my tution has increased $714.22 from yr1 to yr 4. So approx $200 a year (full course loads etc.)

Additionally, Quebec has one of the lowest tuition rates. Not sure about the cost of living or anything, it could be justified, but still stymied.

I saw this earlier on CBC, and it made me absolutely furious. 50000 students protesting a $70 "increase"?! It's not even really an increase, it's just indexing tuition to inflation...
And 50000 students went on strike for the day because of it. Nevermind that they're already paying the lowest tuition in the country, it's $70!!! Instead of striking, they could have worked a normal 8-hour day at a minimum-wage job and made up that $70 that seems to be so precious to them. You've got to be freaking kidding me.

I'm not sure I understand...

For anyone outside of Quebec (including Ontario students) the tuition is much higher since the Quebec government doesn't subsidize it for non-Quebec students.
