Question about Academic Award...
Hi, So I was reading on the McMaster undergrad calendar and it says if you have a CA of > 9.5 then you qualify for a $1500 scholarship. (Source: http://registrar.mcmaster.ca /CALEN...ent/pg900.html) Anyways, last year (in first year engineering), my CA was 9.9 (according to grade reports: SESSIONAL AVERAGE: 9.9/037 UNITS, DEANS HONOUR LIST). So my obvious question is, why did I not get contacted about this scholarship? It says that McMaster contacts students themselves in Mid-November about the award, but I never got it. Who should I talk to and what can I do? Thanks

Contact your faculty advisor. Maybe there's a way that they narrow down the selected individuals for the award in which case the only person that can answer this question is someone at office of the Associate Dean of Engineering.

9.5 for consideration, but usually the acceptance average is way above that. It was an 11.4 for science last year, probably was similar for eng

Yeah, they're obviously not going to give everyone with 9.5+ $1500.

CA is also your cumulative average not your sessional average.
CA is your average of all terms, all years. Sessional average is for the last session completed.
So my sessional average might be 10 but my cumulative average might only be 8.7.

Why? Do they give out scholarships for (slightly above) average academic performance there?
Getting an 80% doesn't (and shouldn't) entitle you to free money - 20% of the science faculty manages it. It's not a brilliant/unique scholastic achievement by any means
