If you can afford it, res is usually better for first years. It's easier to meet people throughout the year and during welcome week on Res. Welcome week is all fun and games for the first half of the week, classes start near the end of it (but since they're the first classes of the year they tend to be orientation classes which aren't exactly difficult). You really shouldn't feel much pressure from school until midterm season starts (Late September/Early October).

I was gona get res but I dont like the idea of shared shower with other 10 guys and shared bathroom
Id rather have my own room in res even if its a 5 min walk
Its not a money issue

If you're living off campus, most houses are gonna be a lot farther than a 5 minute walk unless you got pretty lucky.
Also:
- Bates: Apartment style, you share one washroom with, at most, 3 other people
- Keyes: Suite style, you'll be sharing 2 washrooms with 3 other people IIRC
- Les Prince: You and your roommate have your own washroom
- Hedden: You don't get your own washroom, but there's enough around that you're not likely to be sharing with "10 other people"
Well those are for the residences I know. Can't say much about the rest since I've never visited / lived in most of them. Granted what res you get is by chance.

Do you care about the size of your personal space? And do you mean that you just want to live by yourself?
Although I'm sure it doesn't compare to sharing with ten guys, I live in an apartment style res. I share a bathroom and shower with 3 other guys and nothing bad seems to have happened so far. To be honest though, the little things like the state of the bathroom is the least of my worries.

In res the most people you'll share a washroom with is about 5 and if you're lucky it can be about 1 or 2. You still share washrooms off-campus (I currently share mine with 3 other people off-campus).
Unless you plan to live in a bachelors apartment, you'll be sharing a washroom regardless of where you live (and if you live in a bachelor's apartment you'll definitely be more than 5 mins away).

I answered your original question, then you replied with the washroom comment, you should definitely go with Res

I had the weirdest DEJA-VU feeling. I was sure I seen you ask this question before.

Oh wait you did.
Well, its similar at least.
Car VS Res
Off campus VS Res
Anyhow.
I still stand by my recommendation.

Once the official school year start, there are classes even if Welcome Week is happening.
The classes will all be introduction to the course/etc, but since you are 1st year, you should still go to know what is going on.
