Questions from a health sci transfer - 2012 edition!
I just found out I go into Health Sci as a transfer student for level 2 and had some questions. This thread is part 2 of the thread that got famous
( http://www.macinsiders.com/showthrea...7.html?t=43227)
So, who else got in?
and those who transferred last year what did you think?
Also, how do we go about course registration, do we register on Science day or Health Sci day?
Cheers, Phil

Congrats Philipp!
Second year Health Sci was A LOT different from first year Life Sci; get ready for lots of group meetings. Looking back, it was a really tough year, but it was definitely worthwhile.
Don't hesitate to message me if you have specific questions about courses and stuff.
Congrats again, you're going to love it
Oh about registration day, I believe you still register as a Science student because technically you're not a Health Sci student yet

Lol I honestly don't know how to explain Inquiry and I don't want to ruin the surprise for you I will say that it was a tough course and a lot of work.

Congrats on your acceptance! :.)
http://bhscene.ca/ might tell you a little about Inquiry. Honestly, there are people who have four years of Inquiry without understanding what it is...so don't worry if you find it confusing at first.

congrats! in the chance that you're interested or it isn't obvious from the website or other threads, in past years the specializations have been open to transfers as well (3 in total, including a brand new one on child health that is starting next year, in addition to the biochemistry specialization and the global health specialization).

^ that is a blatant lie. the engineering midterm and bell ringer were exactly the same and we were given the exact same amount of time. the quizzes and tutorial assignments were probably different but the former were from the same question bank I think, and the latter explored things specific to engineering / BHSc interests.
@abby, unfortunately no one has been in the specialization yet so I can't comment, you'd have to email the BHSc office. I do know there are 9 units that you'd take in 2nd year specific to the specialization, but I have no clue as to content and such.
another thing: specializations don't have to take anatomy

To play devil's advocate (and prevent a redundant flame war): Yes, we do have the same tests but I think Leeoku was referring to time out of class. Engineering involves a heck lot of lecture time. With that being said, I have immense respect for biomed eng students. To be fair, BHSc students need the extra time for the boatload of group projects but it's hard and dangerous to make generalized statements, as always.
Getting back on topic, welcome to the BHSc family

What exactly about the structure are you confused about?

Child Health specialisation is new this year...I know that in 2nd year, at least, you take two extra Inquiry courses, making A&P electives, if you so desire.
I think they promised clinical placements working with children to people in this specialty, which may be why it's so popular...but I'm not sure. They are still working through the kinks.
