Questions about McMaster school system
Hey guys, I'm a current high school student who'll be attending McMaster for commerce next year and I have a couple of questions about the school system that I couldn't figure out from the internet. I currently don't have phone service so I can't really call the school to ask, so I've come here to find this stuff out, hope you guys can help.

Also, if there are any websites where I can find information on these questions than could you please link me them?

Anyways, on with the questions:

I) First off, how do they organize the courses? I checked the online and it says I have to take 3 units of calculus and 3 units of statistics etc. What is all of this? I know I have take 30 units during the first year and that the amount of units a class is worth is indicated in the course code, but I don't really understand how it works. Could someone explain it to me?

II) Do McMaster students get summers off?

III) Are we allowed to bring our laptops into the classroom and use them to take notes during lectures?

Aside from this I think I have a fair understanding of how everything else works, I'm just a little confused about the system.

I hope that you guys can help, thanks

1) 30 units for you in first year will be 10 courses most likely unless you take a 6 unit course like poli sci or something which spans over both terms. the 3 units of calc just means 1 calc course in one of the terms you must take. same with the stats. 3 unit courses mean 1 course that is worth 3 units/30 units that you have to take.

2) ya, unless you do summer school which is 6 weeks/term. even if you do 2 terms of summer school, you still get 3+ weeks off in august.

3) ya tons of ppl do

Fahad64 says thanks to Silver for this post.

The day you can first go into the system and chose your classes. Level 1 go later but don't worry first year classes reserve seats for first years

Note that you posted the times for levels 4 and 5 - you're a first year, so you do NOT register for courses on June 9. Look in the full schedule for when first year business students register, and that's your date to go on SOLAR.
