Recent Faculty Award-Winners
Sheila Sammon, associate professor of Social Work, and Nick Bontis, associate professor of Business, were two of six professors selected by 15,000 peers across the province in the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Association (OCUFA) Awards.
"OCUFA's Awards Committee was impressed with Professor Sammon's commitment to student engagement through field practice, class exercise, and by pushing the boundaries of teaching and learning," said OCUFA President Mark Langer. "As well, it was extremely impressed by Professor Bontis' innovative thinking and creative teaching. He truly cares about his classes and the success of his students."
Both professors were given high praise from the respective deans of their faculties. Sammon and Bontis will each receive a 2008-2009 OCUFA teaching award at ceremony at the Fairmont-Royal York Hotel in Toronto on Oct. 3. You can learn more about their awards here.
Six McMaster faculty were recently granted with Early Research Awards. Sarah Dickson, Marie Elliot, Ben Evans, Bhagwati Gupta, Duncan O'Dell and Valerie Taylor were presented the awards by The Honourable John Milloy, Minister of Research and Innovation and Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities.
While their research involves that which is infinitesimal, the provincial government has identified their research programs as the "next big ideas", investing $100,000 in each researcher to help them build their teams of undergraduates, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, research assistants, associates and technicians. Each award is matched with $50,000 from the University.
