refrigerators for residence
Hello everyone,

Is it advisable to buy a refrigerator for on - campus residence?

Yes, I would say it is. Going into first year, I honestly thought it would be an unnecessary luxury, but my roommate brought one and it was actually quite useful. That's not to say you should get a brand new refrigerator just for residence, but if you're willing to spend some money to buy or rent a fridge if you don't have one yourself, go for it.

Also, make sure that you're not in a bunk & loft first! =)

i know mcmaster offers minifridges to lease/rent for the year, but i was wondering if i should get something a bit bigger. my logic is as follows: since i will be cooking at least 2-3 days in advance, the fridge should be roomy enough to fit that much food and i cannot possibly see how a minifridge would do that?

You need to see how much bigger a bit bigger is in terms of your room. As well, if there are certain dimensions that a fridge can be -- ie they aren't restricted to be under a specific size.

I bought a bigger size fridge for first year *not from mac* and have continued using it in res ever since. I find it is not only a luxury, but necessity...if you're going to cook for yourself on occasion and/or store many drinks. People that don't have big enough fridges are usually forced to put their food into the common room fridges, and sometimes those items can be stolen or ruined. For instance, last year a first year came to my room at midnight asking if I stole her tub of ice cream from the fridge! I've even had to store items in my fridge for other people that didn't have enough space. Just make sure that the fridge doesn't make too much noise, as mine sometimes bothers me at night.

PS. I've been in double and single rooms only, so I don't know if there would be enough room to have it in a triple.
