required courses for med school
Hi, I'm in first year life sci and like most ppl in life sci, I'm going for the med school and I have a few questions.
It says you require calculus.
I'm taking calculus for life sci 1LS3 this term and I think that'll be the only math course I'll be taking at uni. I'm wondering if I should take math 1LT3 as well. Is it required?
Also, some say you need to take English but when I look at requirements for med school, they mention nothing about English. so I'm confused =S
Can someone please tell me required courses for med school in general?
and are requirements for American ones similar to Canadian ones?

You can't generalize. It's really not that easy. Look into what schools you're interested in and search for what their pre-reqs are. E.g. McMaster has no pre-reqs while a lot of US schools require 1 full year of Physics, English, Math, Bio, Chem, etc. So it's a whole broad spectrum of requirements.

Yup, adding onto what Sarah said, you should definitly go to the specific school's website and the information can be found there. This goes for anyone applying to any professional school/grad school.

Next to no schools require a full year of calculus (except for a handful of american ones, some of which don't even accept Canadians). At worst most require a semester of calc and a semester of stats. Some med schools in Canada and almost all American med schools require a full year course (or two one semester courses) in English. A few American and Canadian schools instead require a full year course (or two one semester courses) in Humanities/Social Sciences which English would fulfill.
Other than that, to be safe for ALL Canadian schools at mac you'd need to take 2x English, 2x Bio, 2x Chem, 2x Physics, 2x Orgo chem & 2x Biochem (either 2EE3+3G03 or 2B03+2BB3).
Disclaimer: check everything I say. It's a good habit to get into.

when you say 2 physics, does physics 1L03 count as one? cuz that's for ppl who didn't take high school physics so it has no labs...
