Residence in 2nd year
Hi everyone!

I'm in my first year and probably had the worst time in residence! I live in Matthews and basically my whole floor is quite, and I'm surrounded by foreign exchange students who don't speak English, or people who generally keep to themselves.

I'm applying for res for 2nd year. Which res is the best to not have that type of an experience again? Also, is it difficult to make friends being an upper year student surrounded by 1st years?

I can't say anything about res, but YES! you can definitely make friends even in your second year.

I can speak from experience when I say that I spent my first year commuting, and would only go to class and then go home.. leaving no time to socialize and meet people. But even in second year, I met lots of people from tutorials, and different clubs (so definitely, try to get involved), and some of them are now my really good friends.

Don't lose hope, but do look for opportunities to get involved! Clubfest is somewhere you can start.

I'm in my third year in res, but I'm generally someone who keeps to himself. I guess it's really up to you whether or not you make friends . I'm in Edwards, and it's one of the quieter ones, but people still manage to make friends.
