Residence Fire at Laurier University
Residence Fire at Laurier University
At 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, a fire broke out in Waterloo College Hall residence at Wilfrid Laurier University.
Waterloo College Hall houses a maximum of 320 students, however would not currently be at full capacity because of exam schedules. Accommodations have been secured for the displaced students in various hotels in Waterloo. Transportation has also been organized.
One student was critically injured during the fire and was taken to hospital. Yesterday that student passed away.

I know we (McMaster-Brandon Hall) went through a similar occurance in October and I thought people should know about Laurier, if they didn't already.

Yeah I heard about it earlier. I have a lot of friends that go to Laurier. It's tragic news and I was shocked to hear what happened. I live in Brandon Hall too so I know how it's like. My condolences to the student's family and hope everything works out for all the other students.

I'm shocked, man that's terrible. My condolences to the family. It's horrible, you let your child go off to school where you think it's a great safe environment, and shit like this happens. It breaks your heart.

If I remember correctly, I don't think ours was started intentionally. Just stupidly.

Wow, that is horrible. My thoughts are with everyone, especially the ones who were affected by the student's loss. I did visit Laurier a couple months ago, and quite honestly, I didn't feel safe in their rez's. There were no access cards, no guest sign in (on friday night mind you), and the doors weren't fire proof.

THe boy's name was David Laforest, he was in my class in high school :|
I don't think there's been a clear explanation of what caused the fire yet, so noone's really sure whether it was intentionally started or not- but from what I know, it started in his apartment and only spread to one other room before it was put out, so noone else was hurt. I was told that a refrigerator exploded, but i'm guessing that's probably a rumour at this point in time...
It's still extremely sad, and my condolences go out to his family-

From what I've been told the person who died started the fire. I believe the individual had an appliance in their room or something of the sort.
