Hey guys so i am a first year student and i need some help regarding residence. I have a choice to live on campus at Brandon Hall or West Village Suites. I have heard both positive and negative stories about both. So if you guys have any suggestions please let me know it will greatly be appreciated thank you

Residence is an experience that you should have in first year. In upper years it's not the same. I say go with residence even if it is more expensive.

Agreed. Residence can be an amazing experience in your first year. You can make plenty of friends and connections, and then in your later years you can move into a student house or apartment with your friends

Or unfortunately... the mattress are so thin. You should consider bringing a mattress pad if you have back problems or need extra support.

I heard that you can't bring your own mattress. It increases the risk of spreading bugs which the university does not want. I tried to search it up online but I couldn't find anything. If you are planning to bring your own mattress, I suggest calling Housing first to confirm you can.

They actually replaced the mattresses in Brandon after the fire with those memory foam ones, I don't see the point in bringing a mattress pad. :\

There aren't a lot of people in each floor in Brandon so floors are usually tight knit (well also depends on the people living there). But overall, residence is a unique experience especially if you're a first year. I know people who live in Ancaster or nearby but still paid to live in residence during their first year.

I confirmed it in person; you can bring your own mattress, but the one in your room cannot leave the room. You could lay it on top if desired
