Residence Waiting List Position - what's yours?
I understand it's impossible to predict how good a waiting list spot is due to the different amount of students that come every year, however generally speaking in the past is a waiting list position 114 good enough to get residence?

I'm position 80 and I'm really nervous that I won't be getting a spot. Having panic attacks about it lol. Should I start looking for off campus housing?

It is very hard for anyone to say what your chances are, but if your lower than 150 on the list start planning ahead and look for off-campus houses here: http://www.macinsiders.com/forumdisp...196.html?f=196 .. there's lots of first-year students looking for housemates.

As of right now, I'm 232. I'm getting the feeling that the chances of getting a spot are very slim....but I don't want to start looking into off-campus just yet

I would recommend looking at off-campus housing sooner than later, because it can get harder to find houses that you like (and that are also close to campus) as you approach the beginning of the year. You might also want to check out http://macoffcampus.mcmaster .ca/ for prospective housing

It is very hard for anyone to say what number is 'good or bad', or what your chances are because it all depends on how many students guaranteed res change their mind.

If your number is >100 I would start planning ahead and looking at off-campus houses, there are a LOT out there and they are great! Plus there are many first-year students who are looking for roommates to go into a student house.

Check the MacInsiders Housing Marketplace here: http://www.macinsiders.com/forumdisp...196.html?f=196 and look for students that posted looking for first-years to move in together with them

There's also the Facebook mcmaster off-campus housing postboard here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/machousing/

Also check the off-campus housing resource centre http://macoffcampus.mcmaster .ca

Don't fret! Living off-campus can be a way better experience than rez (and was for me!), like all things you will get out of the experience what you put into it. I second Bushra, though -- start looking sooner rather than later.

A lot of students are staying in rez this year. I'm on the waiting list too.

I've started looking for a place off campus because I know that there will a flood of people trying to find a house to stay in soon enough.
I don't want to miss out on the chance of finding a house that's a comfortable walk away from Mac.
The price of these off-campus rooms might also increase in August (when there is an increase in demand for them).

Like Ms Patti said, you need to start having a backup plan now incase you don't move up the list quick enough. Off-campus housing (at least the best choices) start to go really quick. Students are looking for them now (July). Don't wait until August to search for a place! Check the MacInsiders Marketplace or the Facebook group for house postings.
