				Second Year: Selecting courses

I have a question in relation to Course Selection

If I am in a Life Science Program (I select this one for the up commin year)

1) Can I select Biochem courses such as BIOCHEM 2
B03, BIOCHEM BB3, BIOCHEM 2EE3

2) If so, what are the chances that I can get into the course

(I have all the Prerequisite(s) courses.)

Thank you so much!

If you are going into life science, you cannot take Biochem 2B03 and 2BB3:

Biochem 2B03: registration in Honours Biochemistry, Honours Chemical Biology or Honours Molecular Biology and Genetics; or registration in Honours Physics (Biophysics Specialization)

Biochem 2BB3: registration in Honours Biochemistry, Honours Chemical Biology or Honours Molecular Biology and Genetics; or registration in Honours Physics (Biophysics Specialization)

You can take Biochem 2EE3. I'm not sure how many students there will be in that class though. So I wouldn't know your chances of getting in.

You can take Biochem 2EE3, it's a great course that will give you the basics then in 3rd year you can take Biochem 3G03 (i beleive that's what its called) which is a course that is a combination of Biochem 2B03 and 2BB3.

Would you recommend taking Biochem 2EE3 as an elective? I was thinking about taking it.

Biochem 2EE3 is an easy elective if you're good at memorizing lecture slides.

I didn't really like the prof (Zhorov) though.

A cross-listed course is a course that can be used to fill the requirements for two different programs.

For example, let's use English/CSCT 3R06: Postcolonial Literature. Both English and CSCT students will take it to complete their degree requirements.

The course is taught by one prof (for the most part; although there is a Geo/Engineering cross-listed course I believe taught by more than one prof), in the same way with the same requirements.

Thank you for the quick response.

So in your example, is the course going to be any different for both English and CSCT students ? (Different grading schemes for an english major compared to the CSCT? etc.) or is it just the same course, they're just given different names for the different majors?

Its the same course and grading scheme no matter which of the programs you're registered in. The only difference is how you register for it on SOLAR.

it is an easy elective, even more so if you can get a hold of the old tests. though Dr. Zhorov says he doesnt repeat questions, he really does. and as was already mentioned you really do need to memorize minor details but everything is directly from the lecture notes, the large textbook is used minimally and is REALLY useless.

Kay, I have a quick question.

I was in Social Sciences last year, and I'm planning on switching into Humanities for second year and I was deemed eligible for the Humanities program - so will SOLAR open up for me on the 23rd (Humanities) or will it not open until the 24th (Social Sciences)?
