Setting Up Your McMaster E-mail On Your Phone

Since this question has come up a lot lately, here's the instructions on how to set up your McMaster email on your phone:

http://mcmaster.ca/uts/gmailforstudents/imapsetup.html

and for iPhone users:

http://www.mcmaster.ca/uts/support/i...mailsetup.html

NOTE: A MacInsiders user has noted that the incoming mail server address in the guide above may be out of date. Change incoming mail server to: mcmasterimap.mcmaster .ca (thanks to user CanadianVPK for the tip)

Hi Chad, Thanks for the information.

I used the same documentation but where it says IMAP information is not exactly right. It is different than what it says. I researched through this forum and got the right one.

May be you can ask the IT Dept to update this information.

This one worked for me:

Incoming mail server. mcmasterimap.mcmaster .ca

Just thought, I should let you know.

Thanks,

Pradeep

Weird. I was able to set up my account in the stock HTC mail app (on my One X) and it apparently logs in fine, but it seems not to be able to actually fetch anything from the server, and says my inbox is empty. However I am able to send messages fine.

The link that doesn't seem to be working for students has the incoming/outgoing server used by staff/faculty. I think that's why its not functioning properly.

It looks like it's just the iPhone guide that's out of date, the general IMAP one (the one I used) looks fine. The guide does note that Android users might need to use "SSL - accept all certificates," but I don't have that option. Just None/SSL/TLS.

UPDATE: Using the exact same settings works in K-9 mail client. The only difference I can see is that K-9 allowed me to force using SSL. So if any other Android users can't get it working in the stock client, try another client, and force SSL if you can.

UPDATE 2: Actually wait a minute... it's not showing me any mail newer than February...

UPDATE 3: Turns out I had to select the All Mail folder rather than the inbox...?

Looks like the same stuff I did with OS X mail, worked for me. Should be more or less the same for any standalone mail client as well (Evolution, Thunderbird, Sparrow, Outlook even probably, as well as mobile clients like K9). Works fine.

Yep, you can! I set up my Hotmail to send from my mcmaster email, gmail, yahoo, etc. You get to pick which one you want to set as default and the others show up in a drop-down menu.

Incoming emails are all good but outgoing= :( does not send. SSL encryption ON, password authentication validated and port changed to 465. Anyone know how to fix the outgoing mail problem?
