Siren Testing on Campus
A message from McMaster Security Services:
As part of McMaster University's Emergency Planning, the University has installed an outdoor siren warning system on the campus. The University will conduct a test of the new sirens during the day on Tuesday, May 26 and Wednesday May 27, 2009. The testing will include a siren tone as well as voice messages. While the warning system is meant to alert the campus community in the event of an emergency, the sound may also be audible in the surrounding neighborhoods.
The tests will begin with a voice message stating, "This is a test. This is a test of the emergency warning system. This is only a test." It will be followed by a siren tone. The voice message will then be repeated. The testing of the system may involve more than one test of the alert system throughout these two days.
The public address warning system is part of McMaster University's comprehensive Emergency Response Plan, which includes alerts by sirens, e-mail and text message. For more information and resources about campus emergency procedures, visit
