SocSci wanting to switch to Science
Okay so I am in social science doing psychology and i want to major in the bsc psychology or one of the many science programs. I have signed up for courses as if I am a science student, but two of the courses I need are full. I need a total of three courses that will satisfy my shadowing, but bio 1A03 is only for upper level or science so I will do that in the summer, but I need math ls03/a03 and physics bo3. Unfortunately these courses are full atm. If I request for waivers what chance do I have in getting them? Is there anythign else I can do if i don't get them? Also if you dont have 3 courses will they still give u the conditional offer as long as u do them in the summer period when it comes to getting accepted for those majors?

Your chances of getting in aren't too bad. Even if you don't get a waiver, people usually drop courses as time goes on (and some people who signed up for those courses might not have made their conditional offers). Just keep trying until September (and even into the first few weeks!)

And yes, you can be given an offer into a program conditional upon you completing courses in the summer.

As a side note, you should talk to an academic adviser to see if another Calc course would be accepted, I think Math 1M03 might be equivalent, it just isn't listed because its not a Science course.

Hmm, I don't think MATH 1M03 is equivalent to a science math. =/
I took it last year and the course is called
"Calculus for Business, Humanities & the Social Sciences", and the textbook we used was called "Applied Calculus", lol.

You could definitely try, though.

The math department is easily one of the nicest departments (at least with waivers) that you'll ever have to deal with. Send them an email requesting admission into 1A03 or 1LS3 (I was in Business and switched to science and I did the same thing) and explain why you think you should be in the course; math marks if you feel they'll help your case and a blurb about your work ethic.

When did you switch? Did you switch after first year when choosing majors or in the middle of the year?

About 2 weeks into the Business program I started getting the feeling that this wasn't for me.
By the 1st month, I knew it wasn't for me.
I switched all my courses to Science courses, if they weren't Science courses already and kept my two Economics which is fine because they meet my social science prereqs for many grad schools.
However I couldn't switch right away so I had to wait until we chose majors on MUGSI. I chose all science majors because I met the prereqs for all of them except for Bio 1A03. I got into Chem Bio which was a conditional offer based on my completion of B. 1A03 and so it worked out fairly well. Kind of annoying having to take it in the summer but it wasn't too bad at all.

Which majors did you apply for? Did you get all of them or did they reject you because you didn't have that Bio? If I do the same thing, will they reject me because I don't have the Bio?

Thank you for telling me this. I requested a waiver from them and they granted it to me

For Bio 1A03, in the summer you're still technically in 1st year, so you'll need a waiver then too, but from what I've heard, they'll easily grant you a waiver in the summer whereas they won't during the school year. So taking it next summer is definitely doable, but you'll still need to get a waiver

Physics 1B03 will likely open up. I got into it in December, to take in 2nd term. Before that, I went to go see the academic advisor about it but she wouldn't open me up a spot, she just said to keep checking and then if by the end of Dec it was still full to email her again. I got into it on SOLAR pretty easily, although I did check at a random time (3:30am iirc).

People in math are just generally nice folks.
