Strange Situation
Hey guys,
If you get 3.5<GPA<4.0 in engineering I, will the university still boot you out if you can still bring up your grade after doing a course in summer school?
Thanks in advance

I am not sure but I think you can take summer school courses as long as your sessional avg is over 3.5 you can always e-mail your academic advisors

It might depending on your stream, but you're in Engineering, so...
No. Summer courses do -not- improve your GPA for next level eligibility. They are however, considered in the reinstatement process which you will indeed have to do since your GPA<4.
Don't worry though, my eng friends who have had their GPAs drop to 3.5<x<4.0 have been reinstated without much of a problem.

U will/may be put under probation. meaning u keep certain promises to boost ur grades or they will kick u and u will be forced to reinstate. Talk to sally williams for advice. at this point i think it is better to start over

Hey Freija,
So does re-instatement mean what I think it is?
Do you have to repeat one entire year all over again?

Yes it is. You apply to the dean of engineering (first year) to basically start over with a clean slate. You may have to wait a year to restart your studies again but I think that is mostly bypassed..

You will have to repeat classes where your grade was <4. You can take these repeats during the summer if they're offered. It's okay to have a couple of level 1 classes in level 2 during fall/winter as long as they aren't a pre-req or conflict with your schedule.

So Freija, does that mean that they will put me into a level 2 program and I will have to do some level 1 stuff with it?
Cause Iam alright with that..

And you do not have to take a year off unless your grades are really wonk.
It sometimes varies from person to person, but you'll know for sure once you've contacted Sally Williams.

My grades are not all that bad..just failed in one course..so you're saying that they might put me into a level 2 Engg course but will make me repeat some of the 1st year courses Freija?

mostly bypass is the requirement of taking a year off is waived. meaning u dont have to wait an extra year. most people that i knew who retook first year was allowed to study right away

Kenneth so were those people enrolled into a second level engineering program or just had to repeat Engineering level 1 altogether?

If your GPA is a 3.00 after first year engineering, you can take summer school courses and try to bring up your GPA to a 4.00.
You have to work hard in the summer, because they are going to count both grades. What I mean is, let's say you took 37 units in first year engineering, if your GPA is between a 3 and a 4, you can take summer school....so lets say you take 2 courses in the summer...after you take them, they will calculate your GPA based on 37+3+3 = 43 units...that's why try taking courses that you know you will do good at, to boost your GPA.
If your GPA once your done first year engineering is between a 3 and a 4 you WILL not be kicked out of school and you will have an option of repeating some courses (as stated above) to raise your overall GPA.
Now if, after doing summer school (say both terms) your gpa is still between a 3 and a 4, you have the option to reinstate/transfer into b.tech 1...if you want to get back into engineering after b.tech 1 you have to work hard in b.tech and get good grades to transfer/reinstate into engineering.

Hopefully that clarify things up.
