Why do custodial workers want a raise? Seriously....

You're a ****ing custodial worker, you get what you worked for.

Your wrong. They get more than what they worked for. Believe me, I've seen it all.

I don't think they're going to be on strike for long. The administration will see the garbage piling up and the bathrooms are going to smell... it's not going to be good. Well, obviously. And they're not positive that a strike will occur, anyway. It's going to suck commuting though, we'll have to leave 1/2 hour early. :S

Here are just some of the issues that these workers are having to face...

Mac is wanting to cut $4 dollars/hour from their salary...
they want to get rid of pensions...
plus they are laying off several workers...

I'm sorry but I am sick and tired of this institutional [email protected]#*!
Think about it... imagine you being in a job for many years and finding out your pension is being cut, your hourly wage is DECREASING and your job is in jeopardy? put yourself in their shoes and then speak about the strike.

I agree that strikes are inconvenient... heck I was irritated last year with the T.A. strike and the parking lot issues. BUT... sometimes strikes are necessary for people to listen....

andrew22, lorend, SilentWalker all say thanks to carrka for this post.

I worked with the trades people in the summer, Most of them are near retirement and have put in over 30 years.

i work at mac... and i have been talking with a bunch of the workers... and these are the issues they talked about.
my whole point was people quickly jump and blame those that are thinking about/ going on strike. I just wanted to raise the point that if their jobs were threatened they too would want to do something about it.

That's all fine and dandy.

Where did you get the information regarding the bargaining points?

Carrka's information matches what I've heard from SEIU members. It does seem like both sides are trying to keep things out of the media spotlight as much as possible until they hopefully reach a deal. I haven't found anything in writing with specifics.

I get all that.. the problem is Mac has gotten a ****load of money from everyone paying for residence.. Average 3000 students X ~4500 each = 13.5 Million at least.. So why should we suffer, when we paid for residence for the comfort of it.. Not to have no maintenance and dirty facilities on top of it all.. We're the ones lost in the middle between the two parties.. =/
