Substance-Free Wing
Did they really switch the substance-free wing to Brandon Hall? I thought it was in Whidden. http://housing.mcmaster.ca/Residence...le_themes.html

If that's where they say it is that's where it is.
It was in Hedden two years ago and not Whidden too.

3rd Floor Whidden was substance free in my 2nd year (05/06) - I was one of the CAs.

Substance-free means no alcohol (or any other illegal substances: i.e. recreational drugs) are permitted in that area.

I don't really understand the point, to be honest.
More than 90% of students living in residence are underage for at least the first term...so having alcohol is illegal anyway.

On a normal floor students who are of age (2nd semester birthday first years, victory lap 1st years, and upper years) are allowed to drink in the common room. On a substance free floor no one is allowed to drink in the common room.
That's the only real difference. If you're of age and on a substance free floor, you're still allowed to drink in your room and keep alcohol in your room. It's just that you can't drink in the common room like you could on any other floor.

So I guess it really doesn't make that much of a difference :S
Then, I suppose I should move on to my next question of sorts.
I've seen all of the media from Mac regarding the amount of students that do and don't drink; I fit into the "don't" category. For a student like me, who isn't huge into drinking/overly-excessive partying, what's rez life going to be like? I guess I'm just worried about being 'accepted' by other people in the residence community because of my lifestyle choices.

You'll be fine.
I didn't/don't drink all that much (I think I had a beer last summer? I don't remember the last time I drank, to be honest...), and I still had a lot of fun with people when we go/went out (not so much now, on account of exams and whatnot).
Don't forget...it's illegal to drink under the age of 19, so the shenanigans you can get up to in the city of hamilton can be limited after 10pm.
unless you find creative ways to distract yourself. mwahaha. they're actually more fun, i find. heh.

Thanks for the clarification; its greatly appreciated!
Yeah, I'm definitely not anti-social, but I've found other ways to have fun/entertain myself besides alcohol. Plus, I'm 18, and not remotely legal anyways
On a school night, I'm usually in bed by 10:30 anyways. I like my sleep.

And Alberta!
There is always lots to do when you're in res, scheduled or non-scheduled stuff. You'd be surprised how many people are up at 4AM.

Oh god....4 am XD
What sort of unearthly hour is that!
And Alberta? Weird...I thought their drinking age was 19 too. Mind you, you CAN drive there at fourteen.
