Scotiabank – Canada’s Most International Bank

The Scotiabank Group is one of North America’s leading financial institutions and Canada’s most international bank. With almost 60,000 employees, the Scotiabank Group and its affiliates serve about 12 million customers, in some 50 countries on five continents, in more than 80 languages. Although our reach is global, our energies are focused on individual customers, employees and shareholders, and on building a strong community presence. Our goal is to be the best Canadian-based international financial services company.

Global Risk Management
Through our Global Risk Management function, Scotiabank is a recognized global leader in managing risks. In fact, effective risk management is considered fundamental to the success of Scotiabank. Risk, to varying degrees and in different forms, is present in virtually all business activities of a financial services organization. In certain activities, risk is assumed as a means of generating revenue, while in other activities, risk exists by virtue of engaging in the activity. Regardless of the type of risk, or the activity that creates the risk, the fundamental concepts of risk management are the same: policy, measurement, identification, monitoring, analysis, limits, assessment, and communication.

These concepts are the foundation of the risk management framework that the Bank has developed to control the risks in its diverse, global activities. By employing this framework, GRM works as a strategic partner to Scotiabank’s business lines which include Canadian and International Banking and Scotia Capital to provide proactive, value added advice.

The GRM’s Summer Associate Program
The goal of GRM’s Summer Associate Program is to develop skills and knowledge necessary for permanent placement for future roles within GRM where Associates will be capable of assuming increasingly senior positions in a variety of risk areas., Associates will focus on a specific area within GRM in one of the major areas of risk including credit risk, market risk, operational risk, risk policy or risk analytics. On completion of the 4-month program, Associates will be evaluated which may lead to future roles within GRM.

Registration on OSCAR is required in order to attend.
