Summer School at another University
I was wondering what the procedure would be if I were to take summer school at another university? do i have to go through an academic advisor, or get permission from my faculty or can i just go ahead and apply for summer school at another university without permission? i'm in the humanities/soc sci faculty.

if anyone can shed some light on this issue that would be awesome. thanks.

If you want the course to count towards your degree you have to go through your academic advisor/associate dean. You have to get the course approved to be equivalent to some other course at McMaster. You have to get a letter of permission.

You are also responsible for registering at the university and sending your transcript to your Associate Dean's when you are done the course.

If you don't want it to count towards your degree then you can do whatever.

If you want it on your McMaster Transcript you have to get it approved as an equivalent to a course at McMaster.

If you plan on using the course as a requirement for professional/graduate school then you just have to send both your McMaster transcript and the transcript from the university you took the course at to the school you are applying to.

So if I'm taking the course to be considered for professional schools, I don't need to wait for the letter of permission from the dean? I can just register right away?
