Summer School - Hamilton Transit
I was wondering if you could use your student card during summer to commute within Hamilton?

No. It's valid Sept 1 - Apr 30 only.

The MSU does offer a discounted 4 month pass for summer school students. Not sure of the exact price.

No. They do sell bus stickers per month or the whole term. TBH it's cheaper to just bike or something cause you only have 3 classes a week (for 1 course, max 2 courses)

You can't buy one month passes during summer anyway (from mcmaster). You can only buy the 4 month pass. After May passes, you can buy the 3 month pass. And after June passes, you can buy the 2 month pass.

If you'll be bussing a lot within hamilton anyway and will only be going to summer school for term 1, I suggest you buy an HSR adult monthly pass for $87 from shoppers drug mart or by presto. Otherwise, it's cheaper to buy tickets for $10/5 tickets than it is to buy the mac pass for the whole summer.

If you are a undergraduate student, then no, you can only use the sticker to get on the hsr from September to April.

As others have said, it depends on how often you'll be using the bus. I work in Ancaster, so I use the HSR enough for buying a reduced pass to be a good deal.

Bus tickets/Presto fare is $2. There are 123 days between May 1 and Aug. 31. The reduced summer pass cost $273 last year for four months and could only be used if you were enrolled in summer school.

$273/$2 fare = the pass is worth 136.5 trips.

136.5 trips/123 days of summer = 1.1 trips per day

You would need to use the HSR an average of 1.1 times per day for the pass to be profitable (without factoring in things like the convenience of not having to worry about buying tickets or having change). If you have a job on top of school that's not within walking distance, it's probably a good deal. Same thing if most of your friends and hangouts are not within walking distance. Otherwise, just stick to bus tickets or Presto because 1 trip to school each way, a max of 4 days a week = only $16 a week in bus fare for the 12 weeks of summer school.

At this page: http://registrar.mcmaster.ca /scheduling/coursett.html. However, the upcoming Summer Timetable will not be released until some time in mid-February.
