taking phys 1L03 and 1B03
hi im starting life sciences 1 in september and i need some help choosing the physics courses.
i didn't take any physics in grade 11 or 12, so i guess im bound to take 1L03. my question is, could i take both courses in first year? similar to taking chem 1A03 and 1AA3.
seeing how i MUST finish 1B03 by second year. or would it be to much (as i already have 2 bios 2 chems and math) and maybe i better leave it for second year?

That's what I did. I took 1L03 first term, then 1B03 second term.
It's ultimately your preference as to whether or not you take it in first year or next year. What program are you looking to pursue second year?

physics? I hated 1L03 mostly because of the prof (Nejat), but the material's easy. a word of advice though, GO TO CLASS! lol, i sort of neglected that and it definitely showed in my mark afterwards.
1B03 the prof was amazing, and I was doing well up until the 2nd midterm.
I only took gr 11 physics, so I didn't have much of a background either.
And Molecular Biology seems a little more flexible coursewise, so you have the option of taking 1b03 second year. i personally wanted to get it out of the way

ha yes well thank you i'll keep that in mind... unfortunally there doesnt seem to be any change in teacher from term 1 to term 2 :S. o well.
i think i'll get it out of the way too... im not fond of physics either.

I took physics 1L03 first term and then physics 1B03 second term as well. I was also taking the two chemistry, biology and math courses, and I did not find it too difficult.
I would actually recommend taking physics 1L03 and physics 1B03 in the same year (so physics 1B03 immediately after physics 1L03) because they do cover some of the same concepts. The first few units of physics 1B03 were pretty much a review of physics 1L03. Both courses covered kinematics and single-particle motion. If you take physics 1L03 first term and then physics 1B03 second term, you will remember all of the basic concepts of physics. On the other hand, if you take physics 1L03 this year and then physics 1B03 next year, you will need to spend more time studying the first few units. I hope this helps!

Yeah it'd be better to get it out of the way. A lot of the stuff does overlap from 1L03 to 1B03 in the beginning which is good. most of the stuff from the first midterm in fact is in 1B03 then after that the stuff is new.
And it isn't difficult having all those courses altogether..but it can get overwhelming at times. as long as u manage ur time and all that stuff then you'll be alright.

I think the stuff we covered in 1L03 was like
- uncertainties
- kinematics
- forces
- torque
- waves and sound

There will probably be more spots opening up in physics 1b03 on July 3 when first year life science students choose their courses.

I already took physics in grades 11 and 12 in high school and engineering physics 1D03 and 1E03. I now might have to end up taking 1L03 because whoever made my technical electives list for second year seems to be kind of retarded.
Is there anything in this course I wouldn't have already learned? I guess it would be okay to have an easy class :p

thanks, everyone has been really helpful
funny that half of the topics seem to have been covered by the grade 12 calc course... of course i guess it will be more in depth but still.

From what I remember, we covered quite a bit of theory in Physics 1L03. We talked about apes and the ear drum and the human body (I'm assuming the professor did this to make the course more related to life science). We were tested more on actual physics, but there was 1-2 questions about the theory on the midterm/exam (ex: why does an ape have X type of hips). But if you have already completed grade 11 and 12 physics, I am sure you will do great in the class.
