Hmm ya... it's a pretty hard test. I really don't think it's a great way to start welcome week. Really kills all the spirit :/.

I think the point of having it before welcome week though is so that you're mind is sharp. After welcome week, students tend to be tired/hungover.

Just try your best :p.

Math is one of my strongholds and trust me this test was brutal....Thank god I passed that test but it still haunts me.

Just study hard and give it your best shot. Don't forget to go through all the formulas you went through in high school, they will be pretty useful.

Good luck with it.

The test still haunts me to this day.

Be sure to review your algebra.

To all first years: Don't listen to any "Don't forget" tips, and DO NOT STUDY. This test was hard for some, easier for others, and you know what? IT doesn't matter in the end!!! It's not for marks, so NO STUDYING! Not for this one.

DannyV, Jayson193 all say thanks to mike_302 for this post.

We'll come get you guys from your residences/ student centre for SOCS at 8am tomorrow (tuesday the 7th). Be ready! Don't be late! And dont bring a calculator, just a pencil and pen. And then get ready for a fun day with the engineers!

See you there! <3

There should be people to get you at the student centre, but you can go to JHE directly if you like, too. See you there!

if you can complete the test in the time they give you, you will kill first year calculus/algebra with ease. You'll have fun with it, especially when you see the question on the board. It's going to be one of those experiences you'll remember and talk about from first year university when you look back.

I thought i was good at math until I took this test. The stuff on it looked familiar so I know I've learned it before but it was tough, I didn't know how to start each problem. I ended up failing that test.

I thought they didn't return the marks. But whatever, hopefully I do well. I'm writing it tomorrow morning - might quickly skim over my calculus notes from grade 12 if I have time.

EDIT: How long is the test by the way?

Good plan. If I were you, I'd also look over the kinematic equations for physics. There should at least a couple kinematic physics questions.

Just breathe deeply, and you'll probably pass.

It was definitely more difficult than I was expecting.
