Apparently you get an electronic version when you buy APLIA.

No, last year someone put up the pdf version of the textbook and the solution manual on dc++. I just downloaded that and saved over $100. I dont think anyone actually bought the materials textbook last year. So I suggest you download off dc++ instead of wasting money on the paper copy.

Personally, I also dislike reading off screens so I bought one off an upper year and I ended up using it a lot...however like others have said, it depends on how you like to learn. Also I wouldn't worry about the materials book now since it's a term 2 course, i.e. you won't be needing it 'til january

You login here: https://www.webassign.net/login.html

You won't get the login until class though. It will then give you an option to enter a pin or buy one.

Apparently it's just under 20$ now.

If it's chem (orgo and first year) or math, then it doesn't really matter if it's an older edition. It's the exact same content (in some cases, it's the same with a different coloured cover).

With possibilities of chapters being mixed around and the addition/subtraction of pictures. Just a slight inconvenience but definitively worth it if you can save more money. (Older editions tend to sell for less).

I borrowed my boyfriend's orgo text (new edition) just to see the difference between that and my version. All of the text was the same, one chapter was moved to a different spot (for the most part they were constant), but that can be easily fixed by looking at the table of contents. The questions in the back were the same, but the solutions manuals gave answers to different questions. One of the test questions was a difficult question from the text and the old version had the answer in it. =p

This happened with Bio 2F03 as well. All the exam questions were taken off of an older text book.

That said, you might want to wait until the first class or e-mail the prof to ask if the older version is okay. In most cases, they'll say yes.

What were the two versions for the orgo textbook?

The book list isn't loading for me at the moment, but it was the one with the orange cover (old edition) and the one with the black cover (new).

I'll edit this when/if it loads.

Oh ok, I think that's 7 and 8 since 9 has the green cover.

They changed the edition already? 0_0

The 8th edition, I think, was only out last year.
