Does this mean that the given timetable is likely the best timetable set up for us? I mean is it ok to leave it the way it will be set up for us?

The reason I ask is that my mentality at the moment is: "if it isn't broken, don't fix it!"
That doesn't necessarily mean it's the 'best' timetable, just that it's conflict-free if at all possible. You might be stuck with a lot of hour breaks (which many people don't like), or you might be a commuter stuck with an 830 class and then nothing until 430. There could be other sections that you'd prefer to be in, in which case you would try to switch in if they're not full. What the 'best' timetable is differs for different people, depending on their situation/other commitments and their preferences.

You can look into the other sections on the master timetable, and compare it to the schedule you're given. If you see a section you'd rather be in, there's no harm in trying to switch into it. If you're fine with the schedule you have, then don't bother. I didn't change mine at all in first term of first year (because I didn't know I could...) and it was fine

You might luck out and get the best. But, more often than not it wont be the best. The auto-generated timetable just makes a timetable that "works" not what is the "best"

Generally takes some time. It also depends on the students and their preference.

It really depends on the course and the students. I've had courses where switching was easy while other courses that took several weeks to get the sections I wanted.

well, first you must battle to get onto SOLAR...

and then, you can only switch into a section if it's not full. If the section you want is available, then it's easy. If it's full, then you might not be able to switch unless the section opens up.
