Torrents
Has anyone ever been busted by the school for torrenting on campus. I have a friend who says if you're caught pirating at his school you can get expelled.

I was wondering the same thing. I've seen people downloading movies/series on campus but never tried it before. Btw, there's DC++ at residence

LOL! I torrented probably close to 1 TB last year. Mostly series that no one was uploading to DC and a bunch of animes. Also a bunch of movies.

Just don't exchange data items for money; never heard of people getting in trouble for DC++ or torrents. I wouldn't exactly fiddle with pre-release movies or games though. Definately try to stay away from textbook or course materials that are copywrite protected on campus if you can.

I've personally never seen/heard that happen and I know people who torrent with MacConnect all the time.

n.b. : I'm not advocating using the school internet to torrent

Oh, I've heard of that happening too. I believe the routers are configured to automatically throttle P2P if there are more than 8 or so people connected to the hub.... which is pretty much almost all the time.

On Tuesday I had a torrent going at 1.2 MB/s (and this was in the afternoon, so lots of people). Then after about 30 minutes the speed dropped to 50-100 kb/s. The same thing happened to me in the summer as well when there was about 6 other people total inside thode. Both of the torrents mentioned also had plenty of seeds (1K+).
