Two Free Charging Stations Installed On Campus

Thanks to the Class Of 2013, you can now get that quick charging boost on your iPhone, Android phone, tablet, and more... at one of two new charging stations installed on campus!

One is located in the Student Centre atrium (pictured) while another is in Mills Memorial Library. Each station is equipped with 10 charging lockers for cellphones and tablets.

Devices can be stored and locked using a pin code.

There is a huge flaw on these lockers. You can go and lock them without having a phone being charge within. This mean one can monopolize a slot indefinitely and prevent people from using it at all.

Hi crudel42,

I can understand the concern with being able to lock the stations when it is not being used. However, I believe these stations were chosen because it allows students (and individuals on McMaster campus) to walk away in between classes and meetings and leave their phone in a secure locked unit (unlike other stations where you have to wait by the station to watch your phone charge).

There is also a master key to unlock the stations that have been locked without use that can be used if this happens!

@Joanna,

But how will anyone ever know if someone just locked it and took the key with them or put something else in there for 'secure' storage and wasn't a cellphone? You are potentially out of another charging slot. It's a very good idea though nonetheless.

Thanks graduating class of 2013!
