Oh yeah, my bad. I'll keep it on the DL now.

I'll give it to Apple though; their laptops are pretty nice. They differentiated them enough that the user experience (IMO) is much nicer. Not to say that windows based laptops can't also be nice, but... it's just fun to use.

And I know the tech pretty well, so I'm not just being wow'ed since it's "purty".

It's almost 100% likely that it will be an online purchase/download. I used a similar offer to get Office 2007 Ultimate (a $600 package) for $70.

For the offer in the US, they could get a hard copy disk for $13 more. I talked to the lady at MacMicro today, and they won't be giving the discount yet since they haven't receieved pricing information for Canada. Give it a week or so.

Anything north of $50 and it looks like another hacked Microsoft OS for me though

I'll pick it up for $30, if not, I'm perfectly happy sticking with Vista until I buy a new laptop. I hate dealing with the isues that surround hacked MS OSes.

Notice: you can download a copy of windows 7 under the student deal from the Microsoft site.

It's hard to find though... but they do accept McMaster as a qualified school. A copy has been procured.

I just recieved an email from Microsoft advertising a Windows 7 upgrade for me as a student for $39.99 before January 3.

It's a great deal, but my computer is already 3 years old... I'm probably going to get/build a new computer within a year or two anyways, so I might as well just wait and get Windows 7 with the new machine.

Or you could wait for Microsoft to start offering the hard copies for $13 more and get that. Come on, Windows 7 Pro for like $50?

Why bother when it will come with a new computer? My current computer has hardware that doesn't have drivers available for 7 (I've checked), and it's a laptop, so I can't upgrade the hardware.

I don't need an extra copy of 7 when I will simply get one with a new computer in a year or two.

Also, upgrading from XP to 7 is a lot of work, since I'll need to reformat and do a custom install.... unlike Vista, I can't do a direct upgrade.
