hi nikki, whe you click on find. there are different categories of "position types" already. some list full-time, some are part-time and then there is the work-study selection. The work study one is jobs on campus and you are eligible if you get osap. I think the jobs will start being posted in early aug. you can just click those categores and just press search and you can see all the jobs avaliable and browse around.

If you're going into first year you cannot yet access OSCAR. We have not received the information of incoming students thus we cannot grant you access until it is received. We will likely receive this information by August 1st. August 1st is also the day that the work-study positions go up.

hahaha

I felt the exact same way going into first year, and it didn't help that during my orientation day they told us that "everything has an acronym at Mac." Well, that's true, but they ARE useful (can you imagine saying that you have 830 class at the Michael Degroote Centre for Learning and Discovery? soo much easier to just say MDCL), and it really doesn't take toooo long to figure out what everything means.

Haha, Sarah is right. MDCL is a mouthful. Working at security has taught me to call buildings by their numbers (MDCL is 52) so sometimes I slip into using the numbers and my friends look at me like I'm stupid

oh man, that must be brutal
Isn't it super confusing to call a building by a number instead of by its name

Well all of the officers and dispatchers use it so for a while it was super confusing (I had a list taped to my monitor hehe) but now I've gotten used to it so I just have to be more aware of who I'm talking to so I can address the buildings to them properly... cause telling first years to go to building 20 (Gilmour Hall) certainly isn't going to help them any

haha that is so cool though calling them by numbers. yeah acronyms are so useful! i think in a while you'll just get use to it and it won't be a problem then.
i don't even know what some of them mean sometimes cause its just too regular to call them in the shorter form!

So long story short... I never had a job in high school, I was afraid it would affect my performance in school. However, in my last year of high school, I managed to do night school, volunteering on weekends all year long, as well as extra-curricular activities in school while taking 8 courses. Will that make me look more favourable to employers at Mac and in general, even though I've never had a job?

Depends on what you're applying for. Sometimes a job application will say "will train" or "experience in _____ an asset" but whether or not this will actually be held against you or not I couldn't say. As for me, I'm going to be assisting my own boss in some hiring for September and I personally wouldn't look down on someone who hasn't had job experience before unless they do horribly in an interview setting. If you can't communicate and at least SEEM to be at ease in the interview the employer may doubt how you'll adjust to the working environment esp if you're going to be in a big dept. From the sounds of it you have experience working with other people and what not, which is what really matters to most employers. That's just my take on it though.
