Admission Question Threads
As many of you know are aware there have been an increased amount of threads and posts about admission questions from grade 12 prospective high school students.
These high school students are all very nervous about getting accepted to the programs they want and are asking us, the people who are supposed to be mature and welcoming university students, for our opinions on what we think of their chances. This is a pretty big decision, both academically and financially and we should be very supporting to all these questions.
But the questions get posted and they get responses like,
"Learn to google."
"gtfo our forum"
"why are there so many of these dumb threads"
Are you serious people?
IGNORE THE THREAD.
If you're sick of seeing them, don't go in and comment about how you're sick of seeing them, because you can honestly save more time ignoring it then going in and putting in your worthless 2 cents. The person who posted the thread is looking for constructive advice to help them with their choices, not about how you are sick of looking at pixels.
This happens every year.
This is going to continue to happen every year.
Deal with it.
Ignore it.
Stop portraying our school as a bunch of ***holes who yell at every other person who is interested in going to our school.
/rant
Thank you to everyone who actually provides positive feedback to these high school students.

Will I get accepted with an 84 average?
EDIT: Trolling aside, I agree with your post

Yeah, people do need to calm down, but the threads by prospective students isn't going to stop and it's likely the place'll get flooded by like twenty kids all asking the same thing.
We should just make a sticky thread and just have high schoolers post their marks there, and people can tell them what their chances are on a per-student basis.
Hell, maybe doug can rename this thread to serve that purpose.

The reaction towards these students asking questions is completely unacceptable, I'll be giving infractions to anyone who participates in insulting any perspective students.

To be honest I'm impressed at how many prospective students are asking us questions. How do they even know we exist?
Are we like advertising or something? I didn't learn about MI until welcome week and I find that most of the first years haven't even heard of MI.

I think they mean, do people usually troll and insult the prospective students?
There are always a lot of students coming in around this time of year, and some of them stick around after accepting their offer and become the new brand of MI members. This is the first year that I've noticed this level of trolling.

I cant believe how rude some people were being towards these prospective students. Thanks for posting this because something needed to be said.
Some of the responses even made me embarrassed to be associated with these people.
If you dont have anything constructive to say, why bother even answering?
* Some people really need to get a life outside of MI/ boosting their self esteem by putting people down over a forum.

IIRC, when I was applying here on the mcmaster website or something like that, they gave me the address to this site - they were like "if you have any further questions about what life is like at McMaster, ask your questions here!"
Thats how I found out about MI, when I was applying to this school
