Definitely no need to worry about drinking. There are select groups that DO drink every night and party every night, but of course it's university so you can pick and choose what you do and with whom. I do suggest to get most of the partying out of the way though if you want to, before school starts up. Mid-terms come so fast it's a slap to the face haha.
I'm always shocked when people say they LIKE the taste of beer. D:

It's tradition for the Science first year shirts to be a modified alcohol label and advertisement (label on the front, advertisment on the back), with all the words and logos changed to represent McMaster and Science...

Last year's shirt was Bailey's... on the front was the label (which read SCIENCE - THE ORIGINAL, and had the science logo and Peter George's signature). On the reverse was a modified beaker containing a liquid and the words

"Let your senses guide you...
... sense of experimenting
... sense of adventure
... sense of discovery

PLEASE STUDY RESPONSIBLY"

The shirts have always been classy and clever/humourous, not blatantly based on alcohol. The term "hyping" alcohol, especially based on this one little thing is hardly accurate. We've always been quite responsible as a faculty.

On that note however, this year's shirt doesn't follow our tradition (something I'm not too happy about, since I prefer to keep to traditions). The reasoning was a problem with getting permission to use a label design.

Oh, also, our shirts are always black... that's our colour (another tradition).

It's a bit of an acquired taste... I personally can't believe that something like 95% of the population likes coffee...

Good beer tastes quite good, especially the high quality small batch stuff you can get from microbreweries... you just need to experiment. I once found a beer that tasted slightly like chocolate, although I forget what it was called.

The crap you get from the mega breweries like Coors light, Budweiser, or even Canadian/Blue is really just garbage when you're talking about good quality beer.

It definitely is an acquired taste. I like it a little more than I used to, but I still definitely hate it. I hate the taste of coffee too. Although, it's not too bad with a few milks and like, 6 teaspoons of sugar.

And you need to remember the name of that chocolate beer ASAP.

I like Coors light... I don't love it but I don't mind drinking it. But I hate Blue and Budweiser isn't that good either in my opinion.

By the numbers, Coors light is one of the most popular beers... I can't argue with that, but at the same time, most beer is purchased in stores for the intention of drinking for the effects of intoxication (most people who buy beer for the flavour buy it at pubs/bars, since draught is better than bottled). Super popular beer brands such as Coors, Blue or Canadian are considered "easy drinking" for that reason...

"easy drinking" = "tastes something like water"

Haha yeah, sorry for the confusion. I usually drink once in a while but I just started on these antibotics this Monday and I stop taking them on Monday night (7th) but I can't drink 2-3 days after that so that's pretty much the whole frosh week. =( ahh well.

I do believe that you don't need alcohol to have a good time. But I was just kind of mad about miss out on activities where drinking is required (i.e. drinking games etc), seeing as how much of the engineering tradition is perceived to revolve around drinking (study hard, party harder ).

I don't mind the taste of beer. Once you get going you don't even notice it at all. However, smoking a cigar while drinking beer = heaven.

And Sailor Jerry's Spiced Rum, 47% alcohol 26er for $26.00.

I'm just putting out the laws, it's up to you to follow them or not. I don't really care.
