applying for level II history
Hi,
I was just wondering how cancelling a course would affect applying to the history program for level II
the department website says that 30 level I units must be completed prior to admission to the program, so does that mean that the course cannot be made up 2nd or 3rd year?
Is there a way of reapplying for admission to the program in the summer after taking a summer course?
thanks in advance

Yay History!

You can definitely still apply for level II history! I dropped a course in first year, and out of fear took one in the summer and had no problems getting into History II. If you have any questions, just set up an appt with an academic adviser. Also, make sure that if you're applying for the Honours history that you remember to take 2P03 [which has helped me sooooo much with my seminar this year].

You can also do a degree audit through MUGSI after you've declared your major to see exactly how many credits of each level you still need.

Good luck!

thanks twinny1!
Did you apply at the end of level I for the program still and did they consider the summer course you took when you applied?

Yes, I applied at the end of Level I before I had considered summer school. Even without taking summer school I still had over the required average for level II (which I think was only a 6?) If the course you're going to be taking in the summer is required to get into honours history (i.e. you only have 3 units of history instead of 6 or whatever it is now) then they'll reassess your application once you've finished the course.

For example: I took an anthro class my first summer, because I was thinking about doing a double major and only had 1 of 2 required classes. They accepted my into my other 2 choices for majors (Honours history; honours classics and history - because I could pick 3), and once I finished and passed my summer class, they told me I could get into my double major (history/anthro) if I wanted to.

You can always switch majors though! So don't think that you're tied down to just one program!

If you have any other questions, try the History Department. They usually love it when you go in there and ask them questions regarding level II history.
