				SUV drove at pedestrians twice

Hamilton police are investigating an incident in Westdale yesterday where an SUV was driven at five university students -- twice.
Police said five young men were walking on Sterling Street around 3 a.m. when an SUV pulled up beside them and three men got out. A fight ensued. The three got back in the SUV, which drove at the students.
Then it reversed and tried to hit them again.
The SUV fled, running a red light, when one of the students yelled the licence number of the vehicle as he talked to police on a cellphone.
Police found the SUV and stopped it nearby. The occupants were taken in for interviews. The incident is still under investigation. Sergeant Terri-Lynn Collings said paramedics treated some of the pedestrians for minor injuries.

Well its most probably drunk bros vs even drunker bro's. Its frost Week; I live in Westdale and even upto 4amish I am kept up by Drunk people walking around & Shouting or Nearby Keggers.
Drunk people + Crowded Clubs+ Being C*** Blocked/Rejected for Being Creepy by Girls= Fights.
Because this wasn't a random "crime" of any sorts. It was premeditated and a result of an earlier interaction between the two parties.

At least its being reported on. How many drunken stupid stuff happens elsewhere that we dont hear about? I live a few blocks from Hess, and see cops flying up that way all the time late at night with sirens and lights on, but I never hear about what happened.

This wasn't just a random attack. It's one group of drunk morons going after another group of drunk morons since there was probably an altercation during the night.

I would not be worried about this, WestDale is like one of the few spots to live in Hamilton where it is safe, there arn't big houses around because its a ghetto, but if you drive 5 minutes out of Westdale you get into the dangerous spots...

Anywhere towards downtown you get into bad areas anywhere towards mountain, and Dundas/Ancaster is good areas.

Hamilton isn't that bad, and I wouldn't say anywhere in particular is "dangerous". Please don't spread this myth as it actually prevents students from exploring the city and getting to know the city they reside in for 3+ years.

Every city has its rougher areas, but for the most part Hamilton is safe and you can feel safe exploring almost everywhere - just use common sense.

I happen to live downtown (by St. Joseph's Hospital) right by the mountain and it's a very nice area. You should see the mansions where I live, there are some shady areas downtown, but for the most part it isn't as bad as what people think. I think the main reason why there is so much stigma about downtown is because of the Gore Park area, but most people are harmless, I've happened to have had a couple of really interesting conversations with the people in that area. You're fine as long as you're not wandering around alone at 3 am pretty much.

I'm sorry, but if you're telling people that it isn't safe for them to walk alone during the night that probably means the area is a bad one.

Nobody should be walking around alone at 3am anywhere. Bad things can happen to people when they're alone at night no matter whether a place is "bad" or not.
