Barriers to Health Care Access: Considering Culture

Barriers to Health Care Access: Considering Culture

Canada has a health system that promises access for all Canadians. However, people from differing ethno-cultural backgrounds experience significant disparities in health status.

How does culture affect access to health care? What steps can health professionals take in order to make access to care more equitable?

This Monday, Dr. Karen Trollope-Kumar explores the varied influences of cultural context on health care in Canada.

Come out to Mac for Medicare's first event of the year! There will be free pizza and pop!

Date: Monday, October 26
Time: 7-8:20PM
Location: HSC 1A4

Mac for Medicare promotes the maintenance and improvement of Canada’s public healthcare system through awareness and advocacy initiatives.

Shame the "homeless" don't count as a under-represented ethno-cultural group...might be able to have a pizza and pop party for them.

Shameless self promotion: I run a club called Hospital Helpers meant to make patients in hospitals(and we currently got some good spots at Good Shepherd - google it). If anyone wants to join and help out, drop off an email at [email protected].

I really like the idea of the above event. I may attend if I feel up to it tomorrow.
