Bringing a friend to frosh week..
Since my close friends and I are starting different universities in the Fall, I was wondering, is it common for people to invite their friends (non-McMaster student) to stay with them during frosh week? If so, how long can they stay for in the res and are they usually allowed to participate in the campus festivities? (if not all, then which ones?)

I don't think they are allowed to sleep over during welcome week.

You're not allowed to have guests in your room or residence after 9pm. This means no over night visitors. Sorry, not even upper years are allowed to do it.

During the year you are allowed to have a friend visit for 3 days but then they have to leave campus for at least 7 days before being allowed to sleep over again. You also have to have your room mates permission about this because if they complain to their CA the CA may ask your friend to leave.

Yeah, overnight guests during Welcome Week is a no-no - even other Mac students aren't allowed to stay over in different buildings. As for inviting friends to events - it's not common. Honestly, I've never known anyone who's done it, with the exception of non-Mac students coming the outdoor concert (which anyone can technically see if they come onto campus). For most other events, it's usually very residence-oriented, and since the idea is basically to get to know the people you're living with, any "outsider" probably wouldn't blend in very well. Also, since many events need a MacPass for admission, there only are a limited number which they theoretically would be able to attend, anyway.

But really, you shouldn't want to be doing that anyway! A big part of WW is meeting new people, not sticking to the same old group of friends you had in high school. You (or your friend) would be missing out on a great experience if they left their WW to go attend someone else's. Really, it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so I'd take advantage of every minute of it

Cippi has pretty much summed it up above: Welcome Week is for you to get oriented to Mac and being a student here, not friends, not family, YOU.

Furthermore, you're not going to want to go out and meet other people because you already have someone you know with you...and if they don't go to Mac you've just limited yourself in a huge way.
