I don't care for god-botherers, but I find a huge social social disconnect on this campus.. people don't really interact with strangers, and in general there isn't a whole lot of discourse beyond clubs, MUSC table people, and events. Any group that goes around trying to stimulate discourse, no matter the content, as long as its not overly intrusive, is kewel in my mind.

I agree. I feel bad for the people who are handing out flyers and manning tables in MUSC when 99% of the people walking by purposely ignore them. If someone is committed enough to a cause, whether it be religion or politics, that they will take time out their day to try to start a discourse with what are often times rude people, I think they deserve to be listened to and I will almost always stop and hear their spiel.

I get more mental stimulation staring at a blank wall than listening to a Campus for Christ nerd.

I ask because the other day I was passing through the Islam awareness fair and was approached. I'm happy to listen, so I stopped. Now, my parents are both Muslim, but I'm not. I told her this. This for some reason really pissed her off. Not sure what I did wrong :S

I think that's the case with any religion. I've seen tons of examples of similar situations. It's merely being appalled that this person left behind what the other person thinks is the best religion/thing that's ever happened to them- sort of thing.

I was pissed by the Islam awareness week ... Why would you be playing quran in the MUSC ... like nobody understands that... and my friend thought its some kind of tribe dance music and started dancing ...
I hate religion.
Seriously, why can't we all accept our differences and live rather than preaching about it trying to "save" others. The islam awareness week was called dawa'a in arabic literally meaning preaching ... kmt

They do that for a lot of events though, religious or non-religious. I think the point is that nobody understands it, so they'll go ask what that is, type of thing.
This happened with c4c week as well, same discussion and all. Honestly, I have nothing against them, but only if they target people who are actually interested in knowing more about the religion in question, not ambush people like the whole Mormon thing that happens on campus.

If I told C4C that I was turning gay and needed them to help me asap by providing me with some christian sluts, would they?
I mean what's worse, being gay or some premarital sex? I think the answer would be clear for them.

Something similar happened to me today. I'm not sure what it was for though.. I was sitting before class in MDCL and some girl is like:" Excuse me, but I was wondering if I could read you this book. I have to read it to 20 people as part of my homework for class, blah blah." And she takes out this small handout/booklet thing. I kind of got the jist of it and said I was busy. But residences too..? This whole thing is just getting ridiculous.

Yeah, a while back a couple of those guys came up to me to preach. When I told them I was Muslim, they looked petrified and confused. *shrugs*

They still haven't bothered me in Bates. Perhaps members of C4C only hit up their own rez?

If people really want to find out about your religion, your political views, or what have you, they would make the effort to seek out your organization themselves.
Not to say that the rest of us should be rude to those who have set up tables in MUSC, but when I'm stopped by someone, I get a little annoyed. If I wanted to talk to you, I would have gone out of my way to do so.
